Photographer's Provence
a walker's view through the lens

Photographer's Provence is a great example of our customized programs for walkers with highly specialized interests. As a photographer traveling to an unfamiliar destination, it is practically impossible for you to research and set up a comprehensive shooting schedule unless you invest considerable extra time and resources in scouting locations. At walkprovence.com we do all that for you. We discuss your photo objectives with you and provide subject consultation. We then research and set up your shooting schedule for your entire trip with the best shots at the best locations and the best times of day for Provence's magical light. Just show up, shoot, and walk in between.

Have a look at our services to see how we could help you and to inspire your itinerary. Start on any day. Walk and shoot for as many days as you like. On your own time, at your own pace. And consider checking out the Arles Photography Festival, too. Click here for more on our photography.

Independent of our walking trips we also provide full location scouting services for professional photographers for any need, including pre-wedding photography, and advertising and commercial photography. Please inquire.

Pre-identified photo opportunities, subject consultation
Before your departure for Provence we will closely work with you to define your subject interests and lay out a plan to most effectively cover them along with compatible walks. Landscapes, markets, wildflowers, lavender, perched villages, street fairs, artisans, forts and castles, Roman stuff, chapels, monasteries, vineyards, sunrise, sunset, the choices are endless.
Shoot at the best times of day, walk in between
We will identify the best locations for the types of shots you want to take and the best time of day to take them. We will integrate this information into your itinerary in great detail, including specific map references. Expect early morning and late afternoon photo shoots, with walks in between.
Customized for your level of experience
Our counsel is carefully tailored to your level of experience. If you are a seasoned photographer just tell us the themes you seek and the light you want. We'll tell you where and when to find them – we know you'll do the rest. If you are less sure and seek our advice, we'll take the lead and create a comprehensive shooting schedule you'll love.
Special program for the novice
For the novice we have a step by step self guided program that provides detailed "how to" guidance to guarantee professional quality travel shots by the end of the trip's last walk. Today's superb digital cameras provide foolproof technical quality, so more than ever image quality is up to your photographer's eye and that is what we'll help you find.
A typical day
Rise just before sunrise and head out on a short, vigorous walk to get into position for a superb portrait of the Uzes skyline in the early morning sun. As the light hardens, stroll back to town for a cafe breakfast and spend the rest of the morning shooting the action at the Uzes market in the market square's even, indirect light. In the afternoon embark on a historic walk from the Pont du Gard, the monumental Roman aqueduct built by Agrippa, Augustus Caesar's favorite engineering general. Arrive back at the Pont du Gard as the setting sun turns it gold for the shot of the day.
Arles Photography Festival
One of the world's premiere international photo events, the Arles Photo Festival runs the gamut from the best of global photojournalism to fine art photography. It is held every year in Arles, one of Provence's best preserved historic towns on the banks of the Rhone, from early July through mid-September with an intense period of presentations and events in the first two weeks. Consult us for details and trip planning.
